The proposal almost didn't happen because I was being too stubborn and did not want to get out of the car. It was Winter 2011, and it happened to be very cold! We were in Columbus and James wanted to stop by the "Official" OSU bookstore for a Buckeye t-shirt. I told him he was being ridiculous since we could buy one at the Buckeye Store at Easton. I also remember telling him we were too old to be walking around campus in the dead of winter! I agreed to get out of the Jeep and take a quick walk to the bookstore.
We walked by Mirror Lake where he wanted to make a wish. I asked him if we could do it on the way back to the car because I wanted to get in the building. The building he said was the bookstore turned out to be the library and he acted like he was lost. We decided to forget the t-shirt and head back to the Jeep.
As we were walking by Mirror Lake, he asked me to make a wish, which I did. He asked me if I thought my wish would be coming true soon, and I replied "I hope so". As we were walking along Mirror Lake, he started talking about how happy he is, how much he loved me, and what he wanted for the future as we arrived at the amphitheater. I was reading the names carved into the stone seats at that time, and out of the corner of my eye I saw him place his hand in his pocket. The thought ran through my mind that he may be proposing, but I quickly told myself no way. Was I ever wrong :). He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Tears came to my eyes as I said "Yes" and I couldn't stop smiling as he put the sparkling ring on my hand! He wanted to rush off to the Jeep to get me warm. I wanted to stay and cherish the moment since it was one of the happiest times in my life! |
